I would say Hancock was about a drunk, dysfunctional super-hero with an attitude!!
I am a fan of Will Smith and usually enjoy his July blockbusters, but Hancock will go down as one of his worst ever!!
I caught the sneak peak Monday night at 10pm. From the get go I was unimpressed. The movie starts out within the first minute using a 3 letter cuss word, a$$, multiple times. Throughout the movie "Hancock" has this trigger word that sends him over the edge and ready to engage in a fight like that of "Marty McFly," and being called chicken, in Back To The Future. This was on my part thought to be a trivial and adolescent attempt of humor. I don't typically mind expletives if they are used in a way that may fit a scene but in Hancock, that is not the case! Just tasteless use of random foul language just to get the pg-13 rating was a mistake and a turn off.
Secondly there was a certain relationship to a woman that began late in the movie. This relationship added a twist that was intriguing and pulled the viewer in to the story. Before there was adequate time to really get into depth about their connection and history the movie was ended. There were not necessarily any questions left, but just an abrupt ending with a lack luster feel.
I don't really know how to put this movie into words. There was action, and a storyline but something was missing. Almost as if the Character "Hancock" had no credibility or something??... If I didn't know better I would actually say this movie could have been better if it would been made into a spoof about super-heroes. I walked out of Tower Theaters shrugging my shoulders, unable to put pinpoint why the movie was in my opinion lacking umph. All I can say is that due to the hype and my own personal excitement to see this movie I was extermely let down by Will Smith this time!
